IDEAS

Innovators, Designers, Engineers, Artists, Scientists

Who we are

IDEAS at San Jose State University focuses on fostering student-led innovative ideas and bringing them to fruition. Through the use of our accelerator space, our student-led leadership team has created an environment that facilitates ideation, intercollegiate team building, and collaboration, as well as networking with local communities. Additionally, our startup teams-which are composed of both entrepreneurs and skilled students-have access to mentors, equipment, funds and other resources that accelerate their startup ideas.

What we do

We offer a range of resources to help students looking to advance their portfolio or a practical skill set. Members who go through the IDEAS program ave access to the organization's mentorship program, workshops, possible funds and preparation for local competitions.

why we do it

Regardless of students' skill set and discipline, IDEAS at SJSU helps students create projects that can make a difference. Exposing students to intercollegiate teams is a crucial aspect of this organization. Students will be ready to work with a multidisciplinary teams by the time they graduate. Finally, the organization's ultimate goal is to create innovative startups that are proud to have started in SJSU.

how it works

The launch of our rapid prototype competition, the IDEAthon will serve as a pipeline for local competitions such as the Silicon Valley Innovation Challenge, Silicon Valley Business Plan Competition, and also integrates with our startup program. IDEAthon will bring students from across all disciples to collaborate and generate innovative ideas in a seven hour frame. During this time, they will experience the rigorous planning and labor it takes to create solutions to real life problems. Additionally, students will interact with industry and academic experts from various backgrounds who will provide insight and feedback.

As part of the program members can fulfill any role in building, advising and organizing projects-provided that they have the proper skill sets. Once teams are formed through IDEAthon, the teams will go through an interview process in order to be part of the IDEAS program.
